Go get Acronis Drive Monitor and it will help you avoid data loss accidents. You see, this application monitors your hard disks, informs you when they don’t work properly, detects and notifies you about critical events, and, if you have an Acronis backup solution installed on your machine, it can even automatically trigger a backup task.
So to sum it up, if Acronis Drive Monitor detects a major problem with a hard drive, it will notify you about it and will trigger a backup task so you don’t lose important data.

The system requirements for running Acronis Drive Monitor are: 1GHz processor of better, 256Mb of RAM memory or more, Windows operating system. Support for 32 as well as 64-bit Windows editions is provided. You can install Acronis Drive Monitor on a PC Powered by Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows Server 2003, or Windows Server 2008.

Acronis Drive Monitor’s interface lists the following buttons on the left hand side:
Summary – an overview of disk problems, backup jobs, and critical events.
Disks – information on disk health, SMART parameters, and events.
Backup – view Acronis backup software and configure backup monitoring.
Critical – view detected critical events, configure critical events monitoring.

From the Options menu you can play with various settings: set it up so Acronis Drive Monitor will send you email notifications; pick a unit of temperature and choose when to display a temperature warning; configure Windows event log monitoring; choose which hard disks to monitor; configure how backups are monitored.

Let’s take the worst case scenario. After a hard day at the office you leave for home. Meanwhile, something bad happens to one of your hard disks. Acronis Drive Monitor detects that there is a problem and sends you an email notification – you can conveniently read it on your smartphone. Then, because Acronis backup software is installed, Acronis Drive Monitor proceeds to launch a backup task. When you get in the next morning, the hard drive crashed, but your important information was backed up and thus saved.

Acronis Drive Monitor is a free tool.

Thanks to Acronis Drive Monitor you can avoid data loss accidents caused by hard drive crashes. The application will tell you if there are any problems with the hard drive and can even initiate backup tasks automatically.

Pros

Modern PCs will easily meet this application’s system requirements. The Acronis Drive Monitor interface is intuitive, very easy to use. Acronis Drive Monitor monitors hard drives, sends email notifications and status reports, and launches backup jobs (if Acronis backup software is installed). Acronis Drive Monitor is freeware.

Cons

None that I could think of.
